1. A Fidget Quilt or Touch Quilt for Residents of the Community who suffer the challenges of Dementia or Alzheimer’s
“For people with dementia, Touch Quilts and touching and rubbing fabrics that have different textures have several effects, including but not limited to:
Reducing stress and anxiety
Giving a sense of comfort and security
Being a conversation item and helping individuals with dementia connect with other people
Providing an opportunity to reminisce”
Taken from Alzheimer’s Society of Waterloo Wellington
Search the internet for ideas of creative ways to make these Quilts. Called Fidget Quilts, Sensory Quilts or Touch Quilts.
Depends on how many quilts each exhibitor makes, they will get their name thrown in a hat that many times and have a chance to win prize money donated from the Arthur Agricultural Society.
The Quilts will be donated to the local Nursing & Retirement homes.
2. CHEMO HAT– KNIT OR CROCHET
Chemo hats are different from other hats. They are not designed to be worn over hair, so they fit differently. They are in direct contact with a sensitive scalp, so they must be smooth and soft. Consider hats decorated with removable accents such as knitted flowers, ribbons or pins.
Materials: Do not choose lacy, openwork patterns. When choosing yarn, choose fibres that can be washed without special care or instructions. Soft acrylic yarns are a good choice.
