WELLINGTON COUNTY 4-H DAIRY MEMBERS WHO ARE 12 TO 21 YEARS OF AGE AS OF JANUARY 1ST, 2019 ARE ENCOURAGED TO TAKE PART IN THE SELECTION PROCESS TO FORM THE WELLINGTON COUNTY 4-H DAIRY CLASSIC TEAM WHAT WILL ATTEND THE ROYAL AGRICULTURAL WINTER FAIR IN TORONTO. THIS WORLD CLASS, TEAM FOCUSED EVENT, IS THE OLYMPICS OF THE 4-H DAIRY CLUB MEMBERS’S EXPERIENCE THAT HAS BEEN RUNNING SINCE 1980.

THE WELLINGTON COUNTY 4-H DAIRY CLASSIC TEAM IS COMPRISED OF NINE (9) 4-H MEMBERS (8 MEMBERS WITH CALVES PLUS A HERDSPERSON; AND THE HERDSPERSON IS THE ALTERNATE IN THE EVENT ONE OF THE OTHER MEMBERS OR THEIR CALVES CANNOT PARTICIPATE).

THE SELECTION PROCESS INVOLVES THREE SHOWS THAT HAVE BEEN DESIGNATED AS QUALIFYING SHOWS. 4-H MEMBERS MUST PARTICIPATE IN 2 OR THE 3 QUALIFYING SHOWS TO CONTINUE THEIR ELIGIBILITY. HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE THAT COMPETITORS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND ALL THREE QUALIFYING SHOWS, UNLESS THERE ARE EXCEPTIONAL CUIRCUMSTANCES THAT WOULD PREVENT THIS.
THE PURPOSE OF ENCOURAGING PARTICIPATION AT ALL THREE OF THE DESIGNATED QUALIFYING SHOWS IS TO ENABLE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT; EXEMPLIFY 4-H VALUES OF LEARN TO DO BY DOING; EXEMPLIFY TEAM SPIRIT WHILE BEING AN INDIVIDUAL COMPETITOR.

THE CANADIAN 4-H DAIRY CLASSIC IS A VERY COMPETITIVE SHOW; AND THE TEAMS THAT DO WELL ARE THOSE THAT PRACTICE THE ART OF SHOWMANSHIP AND FOCUS ON CALF DEVELOPMENT AND PREPARATION.
