“Giving Back to the Community” Project

  • Class is for Charity therefore all items become the property of the Arthur Agricultural Society

 

1. A Fidget Quilt or Touch Quilt for Residents of the Community who suffer the challenges of Dementia or Alzheimer’s 

 “For people with dementia, Touch Quilts and touching and rubbing fabrics that have different textures have several effects, including but not limited to: 

  • Reducing stress and anxiety 

  • Giving a sense of comfort and security 

  • Being a conversation item and helping individuals with dementia connect with other people 

  • Providing an opportunity to reminisce”

Project Details:

Search the internet for ideas of creative ways to make these Quilts. Called Fidget Quilts, Sensory Quilts or Touch Quilts.

Prize details: 

Depends on how many quilts each exhibitor makes, they will get their name thrown in a hat that many times and have a chance to win prize money donated from the Arthur Agricultural Society.

 

The Quilts will be donated to the local Nursing & Retirement homes.

 

2. CHEMO HAT– KNIT OR CROCHET

 

Project Details:

Chemo hats are different from other hats. They are not designed to be worn over hair, so they fit differently. They are in direct contact with a sensitive scalp, so they must be smooth and soft. Consider hats decorated with removable accents such as knitted flowers, ribbons or pins. 

Materials: Do not choose lacy, openwork patterns. When choosing yarn, choose fibres that can be washed without special care or instructions. Soft acrylic yarns are a good choice.

 

Prize details: 

Depends on how many hats each exhibitor makes, they will get their name thrown in a hat that many times and have a chance to win prize money donated from the Arthur Agricultural Society.

 

The Hats will be donated to Local Hospitals treating Oncology Patients
